What is peptide therapy?

You've likely heard about this, but maybe not gotten a clear explanation.
With a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology, Dr. Ethan Hausman-Marquis created this short video to explain how peptides really work. Check it out!

Discover the world of peptide therapy. The Catalyst Clinic in London and New York specializes in peptides (like BPC-157 and CJC-1295) configuration and optimization. Each of our therapies are unique to each patient. We go the extra mile by requiring blood work and other diagnostic tests before each treatment. We then may alter the treatment plan and’or protocol monthly based off progress.

Benefits of Peptide Therapy at the catalyst clinic: biohacking anti-aging results with Targeted Treatments

Transparency is our superpower. At The Catalyst Clinic, we offer advisory services on the research use of peptides; we're committed to open and honest nothing more, nothing less. Second, the ability to tweak your treatment plan. Maybe you need more BPC-157 and less GHK-Cu. These therapies are truly customized to you! And YOU are the center of that treatment, not the peptide!

Dr. Ethan Hausman-Marquis is at the forefront of longevity therapies – with 15 actual years in peptides at his Los Angeles and New York City clinic and now abroad. He is an active member and speaker for the International Peptide Society, the American Board of Regenerative Medicine, the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and the International Longevity Alliance. As a pioneer in peptide chemistry he has written two books on peptide therapy, Peptide-Based Cancer Therapies: A New Frontier in Precision Medicine and Exploring the World of Peptides:: From Basics to Breakthroughs. He also hosts a podcast, The Science of Age-less Living. And it is all about the science! With a PhD in Cell and Genomic Biology and he knows and understands the metabolism, mechanisms and modes of action. No clinical practitioner has the background to really understand how these little marvels work.

What are Peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that play a crucial role in various bodily functions. They act as signaling molecules, influencing everything from hormone production and cell regeneration to immune function and cognitive health. To learn more about the molecular biology of peptide, listen to Dr Ethan’s podcast The Science of Age-less Living here.

What is Peptide Therapy?

Peptide therapy involves the use of specific peptides—short chains of amino acids—to target various health and wellness concerns. These peptides act as signaling molecules – orchestrating and facilitating biological functions, and influencing numerous physiological processes in the body.

PEPTIDE Therapy at The Catalyst Clinic

At The Catalyst Clinic, your safety is our absolute priority. That's why our process begins with a thorough and comprehensive approach. We don't just jump into peptide therapy; we start by understanding your individual health profile. This involves a detailed blood screen and diagnostic analysis of pertinent biomarkers – essentially, we look at key indicators in your blood that might influence how effectively peptides will work for you. Dr. Ethan specializes in creating truly personalized peptide therapy plans. He takes the time to understand your unique needs and goals, ensuring that the treatment is tailored specifically to you.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY

Introducing a Game-Changer at The Catalyst Clinic! We're excited to announce an exclusive innovation—our peptides are now available in convenient, easy-to-use injectable pens, a first among clinics in our field. Unlike traditional insulin syringes, which can be inaccurate and cumbersome to use, our new peptide pens are designed with your comfort and simplicity in mind. No more struggling with awkward syringes or complicated measurements. All you need is a needle tip and an alcohol pad—it's truly that simple! Just attach the needle, clean the injection site, turn the dial to your prescribed dose, and inject. That’s it! With our new peptide pens, you can enjoy:

  • Accurate dosing every time

  • Minimal preparation and equipment

  • A faster, simpler and more comfortable injection process

Experience the next level of peptide therapy—with us, convenience and precision are literally at your fingertips!

While some clinics may offer pre-mixed syringes containing multiple peptides, this approach comes with significant drawbacks. With pre-mixed syringes, you often lack clarity about the exact composition and concentration of each peptide, making it difficult to know precisely what you’re receiving. If your protocol needs to be adjusted mid-month—such as reducing the dose of a single peptide—you’re forced to reduce all peptides together, since they’re combined in one syringe. This lack of flexibility can compromise the effectiveness and personalization of your therapy.

At The Catalyst Clinic, we take a different approach because we value transparency and individualized care. We avoid pre-mixed syringes to ensure you have full control over your peptide regimen. This allows us to fine-tune each peptide within your combination, optimizing their synergistic effects and adapting your protocol as your needs evolve. Our method ensures you receive precisely formulated peptide therapy, tailored specifically to your health goals and changing requirements.

Why Blood Diagnostics Are Essential Before Starting Peptide Therapy

Blood diagnostics are a critical first step before beginning peptide therapy, ensuring both safety and effectiveness. Unfortunately, some clinics overlook this essential process, putting patients at unnecessary risk. Peptide therapy involves influencing your body’s hormonal and biochemical systems, which are highly individualized. Without comprehensive bloodwork, there’s no way to accurately assess your current health status or identify underlying imbalances that could be worsened by peptide treatment.

Bloodwork provides a vital baseline for healthcare providers, allowing them to determine if peptide therapy is appropriate and how to personalize your protocol. For example, if your hormone levels are already within optimal ranges, introducing additional peptides could disrupt your body’s balance and cause adverse effects. By prioritizing blood diagnostics, clinics can tailor peptide therapy to your unique needs, maximizing benefits while minimizing risks.

Starting peptide therapy without thorough bloodwork is not just unwise—it’s a gamble with your health. Comprehensive blood diagnostics empower your provider to deliver safe, customized treatment, ultimately improving your chances of achieving positive health outcomes. Always choose a clinic that emphasizes bloodwork as a foundational part of their peptide therapy protocol.

About our peptides

Sourcing Peptides from Licensed, US prescription-based, and FDA-Approved compounding pharmacies

At Catalyst Clinic, we are committed to the highest standards of safety and quality in peptide therapy. All our peptides are sourced exclusively from licensed compounding pharmacies and manufacturing labs that are ISO-9001-certified, GMP-compliant, and FDA-accredited. These peptides are US prescription-based ONLY available to licensed US medical professionals. This rigorous approach ensures that every peptide we provide meets strict regulatory standards for purity, potency, and consistency. Our partners operate FDA-accredited facilities and adhere to current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards as defined by the FDA, with robust quality assurance protocols and standard operating procedures in place to guarantee product integrity at every stage of production. In order to work with these pharmacies, we are required to have US licensure in order to obtain – so are prescribed.

Navigating Regulatory Grey Areas in Europe

We recognize that the regulatory landscape for peptides in Europe can be complex, with certain grey areas regarding their approval and distribution. To maintain consistency and uphold our commitment to patient safety, The Catalyst Clinic sources the same high-quality peptides in Europe as we do from our trusted compounding pharmacy partners (in South Carolina and Utah) at our New York City clinic. Our peptides require a US prescription from a licensed US medical professional. This means that, regardless of location, our prescribed peptides are always produced in GMP-certified, ISO-accredited, and FDA-licensed facilities, ensuring compliance with both US and European standards. By working with globally recognized manufacturers and compounding pharmacies, we provide our clients with the assurance that every product is manufactured under the strictest quality controls, whether in the US or Europe. No clinic in the UK Europe would have access to these peptides without appropriate US licensure.

  • Blood & Diagnostic Testing

Let's discuss your health goals. This includes the outcomes you desire, your current health status, and any medical conditions you have.

We will also review your medical history. This helps us to understand your overall health picture and potential interactions with medications.

A physical examination may be conducted to assess your general health and suitability for peptide therapy.

For blood diagnostics (which are included in the fee), we will draw a blood sample to perform the following tests: Complete Blood Count (CBC), Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), and Hormone Panel (including sex hormones) and other vital biomarkers. These tests are included in your plan. As any responsible clinic should, The Catalyst Clinic always obtains blood work before starting any peptide protocol – initial and routine blood work. We will re-evaluate every three to four months, depending on the protocol.

  • Identifying the Right Peptide

Based on your goals and health profile, the healthcare professional will recommend specific peptides that might benefit you.

For example, if you're looking to improve muscle recovery, they might suggest growth hormone-stimulating peptides.

Different peptides target different needs, so choosing the right one is crucial for optimal results.

Due to the nature and biochemical characteristics of peptides, this is where blood work will play a pivotal role in helping to select and pinpoint the appropriate peptides based on your medical profile and needs.

  • Treatment Plan – Dosage and Administration

We will recommend the appropriate dosage and administration method for the chosen peptide, which might include injections, oral supplements, or nasal sprays.

Factors such as your weight, health, and desired effects will influence the dosage.

We will write a comprehensive treatment plan that includes your specific doses.

The Catalyst Clinic does NOT premix peptides because the protocol and requirement may change within the month.Every patient will know what and how much they are taking. Transparency is key to the patient’s journey and relationship to the Clinic, and we do not mind divulging “the secret sauce” – there is none because every patient is different.

  • Induction and Reviews

We will schedule an induction to discuss the plan, reconstitution, and self-administration of your treatment.

You will be given a one-month supply.

On a monthly basis, we will have a review to discuss your treatment and any improvement or results. At this point, we will alter and amend the protocol, and a new treatment plan will be created.

Every three to four months, we will schedule more blood work (included in the plan) to see how your body is reacting to the treatment.

  • Cyclicality

Due to the way these peptides work in the body, they are all cycled to allow the body to reach its own homeostasis and avoid desensitization. This cycling is very important because long-term, continuous use of these peptides could potentially lead to more complicated issues with the endocrine system. Think of a bodybuilder abusing steroids for a long period.

This will be discussed within your treatment plan and at your induction.

  • Transparency

Transparency is essential in the bilateral relationship between the clinic and patient. It is essential to discuss all medical and physiological histories with Dr. Ethan. Current medications and supplements are very important, as some could conflict with the peptide treatment.

  • Peptide therapy offers a diverse toolbox for targeting specific health goals, and growth hormone (GH) plays a prominent role in this approach. As we age, our natural GH production declines, impacting everything from muscle mass and metabolism to sleep quality and cognitive function. Peptide therapy can introduce growth hormone-stimulating peptides (GHRPs) or growth hormone releasing hormones (GHRHs). These peptides act as messengers, prompting your pituitary gland to increase its own GH production. This natural boost in GH can lead to a range of potential benefits. Imagine faster recovery after workouts, increased strength and muscle building, and even improved sleep patterns. Studies also suggest GH therapy might enhance cognitive function, boost the immune system, and even play a role in fat burning. However, it's important to remember that GH therapy isn't a magic solution. It should be integrated into a healthy lifestyle that includes proper diet and exercise. Additionally, consulting a qualified healthcare professional is crucial to determine the appropriate dosage, delivery method, and potential side effects to ensure safe and effective use.

  • Peptide therapy holds immense potential for kickstarting the body's natural repair mechanisms. These therapies utilize specific peptide chains, which act as messengers within the body, to target various aspects of cellular rejuvenation and tissue healing. Some of the key peptides used in body repair therapy include:

Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptides (GHRPs): These peptides stimulate the pituitary gland to produce more growth hormone, a crucial player in muscle repair, bone density, and wound healing.

Thymosin Beta-4 (TB4): This peptide enhances the immune system by promoting the development of white blood cells, which are essential for fighting infection and promoting tissue repair.

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF): EGF plays a vital role in stimulating the growth of new skin cells, making it valuable for wound healing and potentially beneficial for improving skin texture and reducing wrinkles.

BPC 157: This peptide possesses anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective properties, making it a potential candidate for promoting healing in muscles, tendons, and even the gut lining.

  • Stimulating the production of growth hormone for potential benefits like increased energy, improved sleep, and enhanced cognitive function.

Reducing wrinkles and fine lines by promoting collagen production.

    Supporting bone health and density.

  • Increasing metabolism and promoting fat burning

    Reducing appetite and cravings

  • Strengthening the immune system

    Reducing inflammation

    Improving sleep quality

    Enhancing cognitive function

    Supporting wound healing

  • Side Effects

Peptide therapy is generally considered safe, with very few side effects reported. The most common side effects include:

    – Flushing

    – Itching

    – Nausea

    – Headache

If you experience any side effects, they should be mild and temporary.

  • Peptides are not psychoactive, legal to buy and use, however they do fall under specific regulations and regulations. Due to these specific regulations they may only be used for research purposes. In the UK and Switzerland. Despite claims, peptides in the UK or EU CANNOT be prescribed. You cannot prescribe on something that is not regulated. This allows you to buy peptides without a prescription. The Catalyst Clinic only refers to laboratory studies regarding observed effects in research. All peptides are sourced in the US by an FDA Registered 503B Facility. However in order to get the peptides from the US, you do need a prescription. The Catalyst Clinic sources our peptides from a reputable compounding lab in FL and UT.

  • In the US, the legality of peptides is complex. The FDA regulates them, classifying those for therapeutic use as drugs, requiring approval. Many peptides are unregulated and sold as "research chemicals" or not for human consumption, which raises safety concerns. Some peptides are FDA-approved for specific medical uses, while others are available as dietary supplements, but cannot claim to treat diseases. Recent FDA actions have restricted certain peptides in compounded medications due to safety concerns.
