What is IGF-1 LR3?

IGF-1 LR3 stands for Long arginine 3-Insulin-like Growth Factor-1. It's a synthetically produced, modified version of the naturally occurring human growth factor, IGF-1. Key alterations include:  

  • Arginine substitution: At the third position in its amino acid sequence, it has an arginine instead of glutamic acid.  

  • N-terminal extension: An additional 13 amino acids are present at its N-terminus.  

These changes give IGF-1 LR3 a longer half-life and significantly increased potency compared to natural IGF-1.  

How does it work?

IGF-1 LR3 primarily binds to and activates the IGF-1 receptor, mimicking the actions of natural IGF-1. This leads to a cascade of cellular events promoting growth and development. Notably, IGF-1 LR3 has a very low affinity for IGF binding proteins, which normally limit the activity of IGF-1.  

Potential Effects:

  • Muscle Growth: IGF-1 LR3 is well-known for its potent ability to stimulate muscle growth by increasing protein synthesis and reducing protein breakdown.

  • Fat Loss: It may also contribute to fat loss by increasing metabolic rate and promoting the breakdown of fat cells.
